On April 22nd, Maroma came alive with the spirit of Earth Day as we welcomed 7th grade students from Transition School, led by their teacher Clare. Their visit aligned serendipitously with our Earth Day celebrations, setting the tone for a day rooted in creativity, sustainability, and joy.
The students began their journey with a leaf incense workshop—one of our most tactile and meditative experiences. It quickly turned into a highlight. Their hands moved through leaves and fragrance materials with enthusiasm and curiosity, and it took real effort to draw them away from their creations.
From there, we guided them through Maroma’s candle-making section, giving them a glimpse into the meticulous craft behind our hand-poured products. Then came the soap-making process—cold-pressed and triple-milled, a method that ensures purity and longevity. The students were fascinated to see how something so everyday could involve so much care and innovation.
Our ceramics space was next, where they encountered Maroma’s incense holders, candle stands, and the expanding line of handmade ceramics. The pieces sparked curiosity and questions, setting the stage for a lively Q&A session. Over Auroville bakery biscuits and juice, we shared insights and stories while the students contributed ideas and asked thoughtful questions. Their energy was infectious.
The experience culminated at Maji, Maroma’s new art gallery, where they explored Maroma’s large art candles and a moving exhibition interpreting Mother’s Twelve Qualities through ceramics. It was a moment of quiet reflection – a contemplative pause in an otherwise lively day.
Before departing, the class took part in our Earth Day celebration by choosing and making pledges to the planet – small, meaningful commitments to making the world a better place. We ended the tour at Maroma’s new outlet store, where many lingered, immersed in exploring Maroma’s creams and perfumes and enjoying sampling each and every tester.
