Earth Day at Maroma – Six Pledges for the Planet

Maroma marked Earth Day this year not just as a date, but as a call to collective action. At both our new Outlet Store and the Kalki Boutique, we invited the community and the public to reflect on their relationship with the planet and to express that through personal pledges. These promises printed on recycled board, ranged from simple daily acts to larger commitments, and were displayed proudly for all to see. The pledges were: “I pledge to:

•  carry a cloth bag when I go shopping

•  reduce, reuse and recycle

•  switch off lights and appliances when not in use

•  use water mindfully

•  choose ethical, eco-friendly brands

•  avoid single-use plastic”

Some of the Transition School students, who also just happened to be visiting the Maroma campus that day, also took part in making pledges. In Kalki, as shoppers explored our selection of earth-friendly products, they also paused to consider their role in shaping a more sustainable future and make pledges toward a healthier planet.

The result was a meaningful and participatory event, that focused both spaces on awareness for our role in helping keep the planet healthy. We hope that with each pledge, our stores became more than places of commerce: they became hubs of environmental intention, echoing the spirit of Maroma—rooted in awareness, action, and shared care for the Earth.
