"Earth needs a place where men can live away from national rivalries, social conventions, self-contradictory moralities and contending religions, a place where human beings, freed from slavery to the past, can devote themselves wholly to the discovery and practice of the divine conciousness that is seeking to manifest itself. Auroville wants to be this place and offers itself to all who aspire to live the Truth of tomorrow."
                                                                                                                                                       The Mother

The Auroville Charter
.

1. Auroville belongs to no one in particular. Auroville belongs to
humanity as a whole. But to live in Auroville one must be a willing
    servitor of the Divine Consciousness.

2. Auroville will be the place of an unending education, of constant
progress and a youth that never ages.

3. Auroville wants to be the bridge between the past and the future.
Taking advantage of all the discoveries from without and within,
Auroville will boldly spring towards future realizations.

4. Auroville will be the site of material and spiritual researches for a
living embodiment of actual Human Unity.

                                                                           The Mother (28th February, 1968)

The community of Auroville is the spiritual, geographical and cultural context of Maroma. Located in rural South India, Auroville is an adventurous and unusual community experiment that has been in process for thirty years. Maroma is proud to be playing an important role in that process. About 1,500 people from some 30 nations have come to participate in building a town from scratch. Not just an ordinary town but one with an aim. The challenge is to find new and appropriate solutions in the fields of ecology, education, energy and even in the business world.

Can a pioneer international community offer any real clues to the process of community building that might have a meaning in other parts of the world? The manual for "how to" is being worked out in a living laboratory on a day to day basis. Maroma experiments in new ways of running a business using a strict code of conduct for itself that can serve as a model for others.
